Puerto Banús is Marbella's showroom: the marina, the cars, the boutiques, the nightlife. It is easy to visit and only see the surface. Here is how to do it properly.
Start at the marina, but time it right
Midday is cruise-crowd hour. Come before 11am for quiet coffee among the yachts, or after 7pm when the light goes gold, the day-trippers leave and the port switches to evening mode. The second ring of streets behind the front line hides the better-priced terraces.
Ride out of the port on three wheels
The best thing in Puerto Banús is the roads that leave it. Guided Can-Am Ryker tours depart from Marbella Arena, right next to the port: 90 minutes through the Golden Mile, Nueva Andalucía's villa streets and up to a viewpoint with the whole coast in one frame. Car license only, two riders per Ryker, 60€ per machine. It is the one activity here where the view keeps changing.
Beach time: Playa del Duque or westward
The beaches flanking the port are convenient but busy. Walk ten minutes west toward San Pedro and the sand opens up, the chiringuitos calm down and prices drop by a third.
Shopping, from flagship to secondhand
Every major fashion house has a flagship on the front line, and El Corte Inglés anchors the back of the port. Insider move: the luxury consignment shops one street back, where last season's pieces go for half.
Stay for the evening
Dinner on the marina, then cocktails as the supercars do their slow laps. Puerto Banús at night is theatre — get a terrace seat for it. If you rented a Ryker for 24 hours, the ride back along the lit coast is the best last scene of the day.
